Episode 2: Eat for Fertility

Jennifer Redmond

In this episode, Jennifer shares her top tips for eating to support your fertility.

While there is no one way to eat that is right for everyone, there are some overarching principles, with science to back them up, about the role of nutrition in a fertility journey. She shares information on how the foods you are eating may be supportive or unsupportive to your fertility and health goals, and what foods to consider incorporating into your diet.

Key topics discussed:

  • Eat real, whole foods: Vegetables and fruits, whole grains, nuts, seeds, wild fish, chicken.
  • Eat the rainbow: Avoid processed foods.
  • Choose organic: What organic means for produce, meats and dairy products. Clean 15 and Dirty Dozen lists when choosing when to eat organic.
  • Eat healthy sources of protein: Can reduce the risk of infertility including ovulatory infertility. Wild fish, eggs, nuts, seeds, beans, legumes. Protein from dairy.
  • Evaluate gluten: Found in wheat, rye and barley; most bread, pasta, crackers, cookies, desserts. Possible link between gluten sensitivity and infertility. My gluten story.
  • Pay attention to carbs: All carbs are not created equal. Choose slow carbs over fast carbs.
  • Break up with sugar: Inflammatory, causes inconsistent energy, health consequences, addictive. Can impact fertility.
  • Mediterranean diet is a good model for fertility: Wild caught fish, real whole foods, veggies, fruits, olive oil, beans legumes, whole grains. High in omega 3 fatty acids.
